Mountainbrook Civic Association Annual Meeting
Saturday, January 28, 2012 ~ 5:00 PM - Check-In
Hampton Inn at Phillips Place
Social and Light Hors d'oeuvres at end of meeting

Time to come out of winter hibernation for the annual Mountainbrook Civic Association meeting.  There's lots happening in Mountainbrook and this is a great opportunity to catch up with your neighbors.  Find out more about the road construction project as well as discuss safety concerns with Beth Jackson, our community police officer.  Of course, we'll also discuss the upcoming 2012 budget and available board positions.  And for those who'd like to volunteer on special projects (i.e. luminaries, social, beautification or gas lights), we'll have sign-up sheets.  We look forward to seeing everyone there.  All Mountainbrook residents are encouraged.  NOTE: Mountainbrook Swim and Tennis Club Annual Meeting will follow at 7 PM

Board Openings for 2012 Many positions on the board will be opening up this year.  If you’re new to the neighborhood, we’d love to invite you to participate.  The board meets once a month, September through May.  We need you, our neighbors, to keep Mountainbrook great by serving in the following offices:  President, Vice President, Safety , Secretary

VOLUNTEER:  There are also many opportunities to help out for a special project.  Look for sign up sheets at the Annual Meeting in January.

Sink Hole Repairs - REMINDER

The sink hole repairs began today.  The road is open tonight (January 16), but is expected to be closed by end of the day tomorrow.

The city's specific statement and details are as follows:
  • The 3500 block of Mountainbrook Road between Mill Pond Road and Shaker Drive will close Monday, January 16 at 7 a.m. and will reopen Friday, March 16 at 5 p.m.
  • The contractor will be performing storm water work.
  • Motorists should detour using Mill Pond Road, Carmel Road, Sharon View Road and Mountainbrook Road.
  • The road will be closed to all through traffic for the period above.
  • LOCAL access to residences will be maintained.
  • CATS WILL NOT be affected.
  • Questions? Contact Bill Greentaner, CDOT, at 704-336-7308.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned.  When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public. Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious.  Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone.  Drivers should double their following distance.

The bottom line is that we cannot exit the subdivision via the Carmel Rd entrance if we live on the Sharonview side of the bridge and vice versa.  It will be inconvenient, but necessary to have this problem fixed.  Also note that the exact start and stop date might fluctuate a little.

An Investment in Your Community

Mountainbrook is one of the most sought after communities in all of Charlotte.  Our Civic Association strives each year through its volunteers to maintain a high level of excellence for residents and visitors.  This foundation of this activity are the funds collected each year as membership dues.

Mountainbrook is very unique in that it has a voluntary membership into the Civic Association.  Possibly even more unique is that membership dues are only $100 annually.  Doing the math makes it seem even more reasonable - ~ $9/month or less than 30 cents per day.  The Civic Association has always been very successful in keeping these costs to a minimum.  If interested, take a look at the budget posted  here on the web site.

These costs look even more reasonable when you consider this as an investment in our community.  A large portion of the annual budget goes to maintaining our landscaping and aesthesics of the common areas.  These are vital in making a great first impression to visitors and prospective homeowners to Mountainbrook.  In addition there are various annual social events that contribute to a sense of community that add to our value, plus a variety of other factors that all keep Mountainbrook high on the list of preferred communities.

Just a few dollars each month makes a nice investment into your community, which of course, invests into our property values.

The Civic Association's goal is 100% participation of all homeowners.  We know that with the economy still on the mend, even $100 can be a burden for some.  If so, please consider contributing an amount with which you are comfortable.  On the flip side, if you are able, please consider contributing more than $100.
